soft eggs

When I was in Japan, I got kinda sick of eating all that delicious and fresh sushi. Go figure.

We passed by an El Torito chain in ShinJuku. I dragged everyone in and I ordered the Arroz con Pollo - basic mexican dish: chicken and rice dish. I also ordered a margarita because I’m obliged to order tequila products, being that I’m 1/4 Mexican and all (it’s in the handbook).

Also - I have never been thirstier than when I was in Japan. Those large bottles of water that are EVERYWHERE in Los Angeles are scarce over there. I saw a lot of the little bitty water bottles, the kind you can polish off in one pull if you’re super thirsty. But if you order a glass of water with your food, they bring you a tiny little 4oz juice sized glass of water, no ice. When do Japanese people drink water? How are they not dehydrated? Are they part camel? wtf.

When the waitress brings our order to the table, my food is on AN ICE COLD IRON SKILLET, and the “dollop of sour cream” sitting on top my food jiggled like the Blob when she set the skillet down. “Weird,” I’m thinking. On closer inspection - it was not sour cream. It was a SOFT BOILED EGG. (are you feeling my horror yet?) Seriously. They put a barely boiled egg on top of my food - not cool. And that egg was like a yolk bomb about to explode it’s nasty goo all over my food. I freaked out and grabbed two spoons off the table and with surgical precision lifted the wobbly nightmare from my plate.

I should have just ordered a couple tequila shots and a taco. I mean - they wouldn’t put any soft eggs in my taco.

Would they?

what an amazing book

It’s been a while since a book totally pulled me in by reading the first few paragraphs, but The Book of Lost Things is a lot of fun! Glenn totally found a winner in this book.

I hope he likes what he’s getting to read for January. It’s Vince Flynn’s Act of Treason
