surrender dorothy

Tonight I went to the F’s house and we watched The Wizard of Oz. I haven’t seen it for quite a while and it was just as cool as I remembered. This time while watching it, I was reminded specifics like how I always forgot that it was a color movie when it first started, until Dorothy opens the door onto that orgy of color. I would always drool over the costumes of the Munchkins. Mmmm… Shoe Posies. And those outrageous flower pot/cupcake bonnets – I need to make one for my Easter Bonnet this year. I’m not even going to mention the ruby slippers.

But I really wanted to be the Wicked Witch, especially if it was a package deal and came with the legion of flying monkeys. One of my favorite parts of the movie is when the flying monkeys nab Dorothy in the spooky forest and as they fly away in the distance you can see two little legs moving kinda like fingers. When I was little I would put a pair of Barbie shoes on the end of my fingers to get that far away perspective and pretend that Dorothy was being carried away by my evil monkey army.
